Some Rules and Regulations
When a young person under 18 approaches PILOT PRESS about publishing a book, they often do not understand that publishing a book for someone under eighteen can be fraught with problems, mainly because of the parental, legal, ethical, custody or guardianship situations that might be involved when a parent wants to sign a contract on their behalf. We would legally be required to determine that in the case of an under-eighteen-year-old he or she is not subject to a custody proceeding and that the person approaching us has the right to execute our contract.
PILOT PRESS cannot accept a contract signed by anyone other than a person the law considers to be an adult over eighteen years of age and that person confirms in our contract that they are eighteen or over. 

​It is important to note that, with regard to all our publishing services, the prices we quote relate to submitted manuscripts that do not or will not exceed a word count of 80.000. If you think your manuscript will exceed 80.000 words you will need to discuss this with us before sending in your contract. There  is an additional charge per one-thousand words or part thereof.  
There are particular cautions concerning non-fiction books authors and publishers in England and Wales have to contend with. The spectre of libel, in which the plaintive has in general the burden of proving  that any written statements are false; we now also have a the right of privacy under the Human Rights Act 1977.


Copyrights & Permissions
If any of the above are required they must be applied for, permission in writing received by the author and embedded into the text file at the time of submitting to PILOT PRESS. For the purpose of obtaining advice on permissions, copyright releases and accreditations, this link is useful www.societyofauthors.org.  In the event that on publication of the book a complaint arises concerning a permission not having been requested or copyright release has not been properly obtained, or a citing is insufficiant or incorrect, the author shall be liable for any costs incurred by PILOT PRESS in resolving the dispute.


We are particular as to the type of book we publish. We will not publish:

  • any form of pornography 
  • uncalled for violence 
  • books by misogynists
  • books by misanthropists 
  • racial or religious intolerance
  • subjugation of women and children in any form
  • violence involving animals
  • unsupported conspiracy theories

​Your first step
Once your manuscript is finished and you are ready for the next steps, you are welcome to submit an excerpt (first two - three chapters, or from the middle of your book a few chapters). Then, once we have the impression your work could be a good addition to our label, we request the full manuscript. We will review your work, which can take 3- 4 weeks;  we then let you know if we still think you’re a good match for our label, and the work can begin.
